STOP THE KILLING!!!!!!

This weekend is the celebration of the famous San Fermin Festival at Pamplona in the Northern part of Spain… “the running off the bulls’ event. I had arranged to be there this weekend but I changed my mind after learning more about the event and saw video clips of the event where the bull is being slaughtered in a bullfight after running after bunch of drunk people!

Is the whole event about excessive drinking and killing the bull at the end to amuse the drunk?

Does not appeal to me!

If the argument is a ‘long rooted tradition’, then bullfighting was not part of this celebration and it only became part after the 14th century. The origin of San Fermin festival (San Fermin was the son of a Roman of senatorial rank in Pamplona in the 3rd century) is about commercial secular fairs that were held at the beginning of each summer and when cattle merchants came into town with their animals.

The event has lost its meaning and has gone out of control. Every year people are actually killed and a significant amount are injured.

What an irony…we will use all possible resources to save ONE life who may have less than 1% chance of survival and at the same time we are allowing for life being wasted for no cause.

Even more irony when we consider the opposition of the whole world against animal testing which could potentially save millions of lives, when we are proud of traditions where we torture and slaughter animals for the cheering of a drunk audience…
